Systematic review on hepatitis B and C prevalence in the EU/EEA
ECDC conducted a systematic review of the literature published between 2005–2015, with the aim to estimate the prevalence of hepatitis B and C in the general population and specific population subgroups in the EU/EEA Member States. This review is an update of an earlier review covering the period 2000–2009.

ECDC: around 9 million Europeans are affected by chronic hepatitis B or C
An estimated 4.7 million Europeans are living with chronic hepatitis B and almost 4 million (3.9) with chronic hepatitis C infection. However, large numbers of them are not even aware of their infection as they have not yet been tested and diagnosed.

This joint guidance from ECDC and the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction provides EU/EEA Member States with evidence-based scientific advice on active case finding options.
