Published by the European Food Safety Authority, this joint scientific report brings together data on the occurrence of zoonoses, zoonotic agents and food-borne outbreaks and zoonoses cases reported in humans.

In 2009, a survey was conducted to form a picture of the availability and scope of services offered by National Reference Laboratories in EU and EEA countries with respect to six priority food and waterborne pathogens: Campylobacter, Listeria, Salmonella, Shigella, Shiga toxin/verotoxin–producing Escherichia coli (STEC/VTEC) and Yersinia.

ECDC and the European Food Safety Authority analysed the information submitted by 27 European Union Member States on the occurrence of zoonoses and food-borne outbreaks in 2011.

This report presents the epidemiological situation for food- and waterborne diseases and zoonoses as of 2012 and describes the statistical and epidemiological methods used.

​The report presents the results of the zoonoses monitoring activities carried out in 2013 in 32 European countries:eg 28 Member States (MS) and four non-Member States (non-MS) European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries.

This surveillance report on seven priority food- and waterborne diseases is the second dedicated epidemiological report offering detailed analyses of these diseases in the EU/EEA for the years 2010 to 2012.
