Laboratory readiness and response for novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in expert laboratories in 30 EU/EEA countries, January 2020
A first assessment looking at the preparedness of EU/EEA laboratories to detect severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) demonstrates a fast implementation of molecular diagnostics by the European specialised laboratory networks. It also shows a good geographical coverage for testing.
Situation dashboard - COVID-19 cases in Europe and worldwide
New version released on 17 December 2020!
This interactive platform allows users to explore the latest available data on COVID-19, including cases and deaths worldwide and more detailed data on transmission in the EU/EEA.
Whole genome sequencing analysis with INSaFLU
INSaFLU (“INSide the FLU”) is a bioinformatics free web-based suite that deals with primary data (reads) towards the automatic generation of the output data that are actually the core first-line “genetic requests” for effective and timely influenza laboratory surveillance (e.g., type and sub-type, gene and whole-genome consensus sequences, variants annotation, alignments and phylogenetic trees). Data integration is continuously scalable, fitting the need for a real-time epidemiological surveillance during the flu epidemics.
Sequence depositing and analysis: GISAID
The GISAID Initiative promotes the international sharing of all influenza virus sequences, related clinical and epidemiological data associated with human viruses, and geographical as well as species-specific data associated with avian and other animal viruses, to help researchers understand how the viruses evolve, spread and potentially become pandemics.
