Hepatitis E in the EU/EEA, 2005-2015
The purpose of this study was to assess current testing, diagnosis, and surveillance for HEV in EU/EEA Member States, and to conduct a baseline assessment of available epidemiological data.

The incidence of hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection has been steadily increasing across the countries of the European Union and European Economic Area (EU/EEA) with 21 081 cases reported in the EU/EEA over the last decade.
ECDC: around 9 million Europeans are affected by chronic hepatitis B or C
An estimated 4.7 million Europeans are living with chronic hepatitis B and almost 4 million (3.9) with chronic hepatitis C infection. However, large numbers of them are not even aware of their infection as they have not yet been tested and diagnosed.
1st Hepatitis E virus network (HEVnet) meeting
The key objective of this meeting was to verify the rationale and objectives of molecular typing for surveillance of hepatitis E virus (HEV) through the hepatitis E network (HEVnet). The workshop reviewed HEVnet as a tool for molecular surveillance of HEV in Europe.
World Hepatitis Day 2018
On the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, ECDC launched online prevalence database for hepatitis B and C which included data mainly based on peer-reviewed cross sectional studies from 2006 onwards.

Hepatitis E is one of the most common causes of acute hepatitis in the EU/EEA but currently not notifiable at EU level. This presentation summarises ECDC's work on the topic and survey results on hepatitis E on 2005 to 2015 data.
