This guidance on community engagement for public health emergency preparedness is intended for public health authorities in EU/EEA Member States. It is meant to provide step-by-step technical support to Member States who are initiating or professionalising their core community engagement capacity. The guidance is organised according to the three core stages of the preparedness cycle: anticipation, response, and recovery.

In 2018, 3 212 cases of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) were reported in EU/EEA countries, 3 092 (96.3%) of which were confirmed.

In 2017, 3 079 cases of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) were reported in EU/EEA countries, 2 550 (83%) of which were confirmed.

The present report is concerned with the emerging infection of tick-borne encephalitis in the Netherlands — the two first endemic cases occurring in July 2016 — in the larger context of a widespread and increasing incidence of lyme borreliosis.

In 2016, 2 876 cases of tick-borne encephalitis were reported, 2 674 (93%) of which were confirmed.

In 2015, 1 949 cases of tick-borne encephalitis were reported; 1 908 (98.4%) of these cases were confirmed.
