The aim of this guidance document is to provide EU/EEA Member States and EU bodies with relevant information to make an informed decision on routine vaccination of healthy children and pregnant women with seasonal influenza vaccine. The options presented in this document are based on a systematic review of the literature and the opinions of a group of independent experts.

This report summarises the discussion and outcomes of an expert consultation on communicable diseases transmissible through substances of human origin (SoHO) which took place at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) in Stockholm, Sweden, on 20 and 21 September 2011.

This report presents the main findings of an ECDC project to assess the burden of infectious diseases among migrants in the EU/EEA based on available data for specific diseases: human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), tuberculosis (TB), hepatitis B, hepatitis C, gonorrhoea, syphilis, measles and rubella, malaria and Chagas disease.

This report is part of the ECDC Report on migration and infectious diseases in the EU, a series of documents presenting data analysis, evidence summary, interpretation and guidance on interventions in the field of migration and selected infectious diseases.

ECDC undertook a survey to assess needs and priorities prior to developing guidance on testing and screening for hepatitis B and C (HBV/HCV) in the EU/EEA, and to update the existing evidence on the burden of HBV/HCV morbidity and mortality across EU/EEA Member States.

ECDC has published an Expert Opinion on rotavirus vaccination in infancy. The paper provides EU/EEA Member States with relevant scientific information on burden of rotavirus disease, vaccine effectiveness and safety, and cost-effectiveness studies to support the decision-making process on the possible introduction of routine vaccination of children against rotavirus gastroenteritis.

The elimination of tuberculosis (TB) in Europe will require the management of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) in key populations. Management of LTBI requires the identification and adequate treatment of infected people. It is currently unknown how screening and treatment of key populations should be best organised to have the highest impact with the available resources.
