No autochthonous cases of Zika virus infection have been reported in EU Member States so far in 2015. In the past month, one imported case was reported in the Netherlands in a traveller who returned from Suriname on 29 November 2015 after a 3-week holiday in that country.

​​On 1 February 2016, following the first meeting of the Emergency Committee convened by the Director-General under the IHR 2005 regarding clusters of microcephaly cases and other neurologic disorders in some areas affected by Zika virus, WHO declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).

​As of 3 March 2016, autochthonous cases of Zika virus infection have been reported from 38 countries and territories worldwide in the past two months. Forty-one countries and territories have reported autochthonous cases of Zika virus infection in the past nine months.

​Since last week, the Philippines and Fiji confirmed the first autochthonous cases of Zika virus transmission in 2016.

​Since last week, one new country, Vietnam, has reported autochthonous transmission.

​Since last week, Kosrae in the Federated States of Micronesia and Papua New Guinea have reported autochthonous transmission of Zika virus.
