External quality assessment of laboratory performance – European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network (EARS-Net), 2018
This report provides an analysis of the external quality assessment (EQA) performance with antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) of laboratories participating in the European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network in 2018. A total of 860 laboratories (1 – 114 per country) from 30 EU/EEA countries participated in the EQA exercise. Six bacterial strains were used: Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecium and Streptococcus pneumoniae.

A spatial modelling method for vector surveillance
Vector borne diseases are a specific group of infectious diseases that are a (re-)emerging threat to Europe.
One important aspect of preparedness for vector borne diseases is the surveillance of the introduction, establishment and spread of the main disease vectors. ECDC regularly publishes updated vector distribution maps at the NUTS3 level.
This document describes a methodology to estimate the vector distribution status for those NUTS3 units for which observations are not yet available . These estimates are produced with spatial modelling techniques, using the currently available distributions to calibrate the modelling process. This document provides an overview of gap analysis procedures, sets out the full methodology, and also provide s details of which methodological components were used with each output provided.

EMIS-2017 – The European Men-Who-Have-Sex-With-Men Internet Survey
This report presents a comprehensive analysis of the results of a 2017 survey among men who have sex with men (MSM). Based on the responses of some 128 000 participants in Europe, it provides insights on their knowledge of HIV, viral hepatitis and sexually transmitted infections (STI), sexual behaviour, prevention needs and testing habits.
The use of evidence in decision making during public health emergencies
This report is based upon a workshop (expert consultation) on 5–6 December 2018. The workshop sought to identify and address the links between scientific evidence and decision-making in public health
emergencies, and to address the key challenges faced by public health experts when advising decision makers.
Syphilis and congenital syphilis in Europe - A review of epidemiological trends (2007–2018) and options for response
Since 2010, syphilis notification rates in the EU/EAA have been on the increase, but in recent years this trend seems to accelerate, predominantly among men having sex with men. Similar trends have been observed in high-income countries outside the EU/EAA. While the overall trend remained relatively stable, outbreaks or clusters of syphilis cases have also been reported among heterosexual populations in the EU/EEA. In several high-income countries (e.g. USA, Japan), increases in congenital syphilis occurred in connection with increases in syphilis notifications among women.
Collection and analysis of whole genome sequencing data from food-borne pathogens and other relevant microorganisms isolated from human, animal, food, feed and food/feed environmental samples in the joint ECDC–EFSA molecular typing database
This report identifies and compares potential platforms/solutions for the set-up and running of a joint ECDC–EFSA database to collect and analyse whole genome sequencing (WGS) data for Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella and Escherichia coli. In particular, WGS introduces the need for specific components for storage and analysis of these data.
Third external quality assessment on species identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing of Campylobacter, 2017
