The objective of this expert consultation was to guide, harmonize and enhance the surveillance and prevention of tick-borne diseases in EU Member States, with special emphasis on Lyme borreliosis and tick-borne encephalitis.

On 3 October 2011 European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and representatives of the European Vaccine Manufacturers  met at ECDC in Stockholm for a regular scheduled meeting about the use of vaccines for prevention of seasonal and pandemic influenza. ECDC Director Marc Sprenger opened the meeting and ECDC influenza experts held different presentations, such as burden of influenza disease in the EU, risk groups for severe influenza disease, personal protective measures, pandemic influenza preparedness, seasonal influenza vaccines, communication.

ECDC and the EMCDDA have joined forces to identify seven interventions to reduce and prevent infectious diseases in this vulnerable population.

A pre-EUPHA conference workshop aimed at presenting results of ECDC works on socio-economic determinants and its impacts on infectious diseases control and prevention.

Looking at finished and ongoing modelling projects sponsored by ECDC and other EU funders such ad DG Research and the Public Health Programme.2) Discussing what European Union mechanisms for communicable disease modelling networking would be useful in the future.

Which infectious diseases are emerging - Who are they affecting - Why are they emerging - What can be done to control them

In an expert meeting in Stockholm, identified synergies and gaps in the availability of sexual health data, programmes, initiatives and policies across Europe and possibilities for future work will be discussed.

This expert meeting was part of the ECDC project on chlamydia control in Europe and aimed to provide EU Member States with evidence-based information that is needed for the development and evaluation of chlamydia control strategies and to monitor progress in chlamydia control in Europe.
