EARS-Net and HAI-Net Coordination group meetingArchived
This will be the first joint meeting of the EARS-Net and HAI-Net Coordination groups. The meeting will address epidemiological, microbiological and technical aspects related to surveillance and reporting of antimicrobial resistance and healthcare-associated infections.
Third Joint Workshop on AMR in Salmonella and Campylobacter
This workshop on AMR in Salmonella and Campylobacter was arranged in cooperation with the FWD Network and the EU reference laboratory for antimicrobial resistance network.
Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae continue to spread in Europe
Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) are an emerging threat to healthcare. Beside the carbapenems – a last-line class of antibiotics – CPE are resistant to most other antibiotics, leaving few options for the treatment of infected patients. In an effort to assess the nature and scale of CPE spread in Europe, a group of European experts is implementing the European Survey on Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae (EuSCAPE).
Collection of online resources for prevention and control of antimicrobial resistance and healthcare-associated infections now available
ECDC gathered guidance documents on prevention and control of infection with carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) available online, published by EU/EEA Member States, ECDC, other agencies and scientific societies.
ECDC welcomes the endorsement of the global action plan on antimicrobial resistance by the World Health Assembly
By endorsing the new global action plan endorsed at the World Health Assembly, WHO Member States agreed to mobilise resources to ensure its implementation and committed to have similar plans at national level by 2017.
Emerging spread of new fungal species poses risk for healthcare settings in the EU/EEA
The rise in Europe of Candida auris infections, a difficult-to-control fungus, is of concern. The fungus spreads easily in healthcare settings, can cause invasive infections, and is also associated with resistance to multiple classes of anti-fungal medication.
Drug-resistance of gonorrhoea in the EU: persistent but stable
Neisseria gonorrhoea continues to show high levels of resistance to azithromycin across the European Union and European Economic Area, according to the 2016 results of the European Gonococcal Antimicrobial Surveillance Programme (Euro-GASP).
Call for scientific collaboration to support genomic-based surveillance of Neisseria gonorrhoeae-antimicrobial resistance at EU-level
ECDC is looking to establish a scientific collaboration with an organisation which can perform whole genome sequencing (WGS) of Neisseria gonorrhoeae, carry out related data analyses, share results of the analyses with ECDC and the participants of the European Gonococcal Antimicrobial Surveillance Programme as well as visualise the results.
OECD highlights the progress made in laboratory systems in the EU/EEA since the implementation of EULabCap
The OECD report ‘Health at a Glance: Europe 2018’ summarises the EULabCap indicator results in the chapter on public health laboratory capacity to control infectious disease threats.
