Cross-border health threats: assessment, evidence-based decision making & communication
The aim of the workshop was to strengthen capacity in Member States of the European Union (EU) and of the European Economic Area (EEA) in increasing and strengthening knowledge on the use of scientific evidence for assessment, decision-making and communication of cross-borders health threats in the European Union.

Since 1 February 2016, Zika virus infection and the related clusters of microcephaly cases and other neurological disorders constitute a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).
Listeria infections stable but frequently reported among the elderly
There has been a statistically significant increasing trend of listeriosis between 2008 and 2015, with the proportion of cases in the over 64 age group steadily increasing from 56.2% in 2008 to 64.1% in 2015.
Epidemiological update: West Nile virus transmission season in Europe, 2016
In 2016, 225 human cases of West Nile fever have been reported in the EU: most cases were reported in Romania and Italy, Hungary and Romania reported a significant increase in number of cases compared to the previous season. Cyprus detected its ever first human case of West Nile fever.
Epidemiological update: Increase in travel-associated Legionnaires’ disease among EU travellers returning from Dubai in the last quarter of 2016
The ECDC ELDSNet surveillance scheme on travel-associated Legionnaires’ disease (TALD) observed an increase in the number of cases associated with travel to Dubai in the last quarter of 2016, compared with previous years.
Epidemiological update: Yellow fever outbreak in Brazil, 9 February 2017
As of 2 February 2017, 826 cases (including 155 confirmed) have been reported in Brazil. This represents an increase of 315 cases (including 67 confirmed) since the last CDTR. The most-affected state remains Minas Gerais, with 740 cases (including 138 confirmed) reported.
Epidemiological update: Yellow fever outbreak in Brazil, 9 March 2017
As of 6 March 2017, Brazil has reported 1 337 cases of yellow fever (966 suspected and 371 confirmed), including 233 deaths (106 suspected and 127 confirmed), in seven states. The case-fatality rate is 17.4% among all cases and 34.2% among confirmed cases.

An ongoing measles outbreak in Romania since February 2016 continuously see increase in number of cases reported despite having implemented, and continuously undertaking, response measures at national level through reinforced vaccination activities.
