World Refugee Day, held each year on 20 June, highlights the challenges of those who had to flee their homes and is an opportunity to show solidarity with displaced people throughout the world.
Flu Awareness Week, 22 – 26 October 2018
The Flu Awareness Week is marked across the WHO European Region every year in October. It aims to raise awareness of the importance of vaccination for people’s health and well-being and to increase the uptake of seasonal influenza vaccination of people with underlying risk factors.
Joint WHO/Europe–ECDC Annual European Influenza Surveillance Meeting, 2018
The joint annual influenza surveillance meeting by ECDC and the WHO Regional Office for Europe took place on 6 - 8 June 2018 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Invited participants were epidemiological and virological surveillance experts nominated by national health authorities as well as representatives from international institutions, covering the 53 countries of the EU/EEA and the WHO European region. The meeting was by invitation only.
ECDC Expert meeting on non-pharmaceutical countermeasures for Pandemic flu
The meeting focused on the evidence base for the revision of the updated “Guide to public health measures to reduce the impact of influenza pandemics in Europe”, with a specific emphasis on non-pharmaceutical countermeasures for pandemic flu.
European Immunization Week, 2018
European Immunization Week (EIW) is marked across the European Region every April. It aims to raise awareness of the importance of immunisation for people’s health and well-being. Activities in 2018 focused on the progress and challenges in the Region’s concerted effort to eliminate measles and rubella.
Public consultation on strengthening cooperation against vaccine-preventable diseases
The European Commission had an ongoing open public consultation on ‘strengthened cooperation against vaccine-preventable diseases’ which ran until 15 March 2018. The objective of this consultation was to collect the views and input of citizens, administrations, associations and other relevant organisations to feed into the process of drafting a proposal for a Council Recommendation to be adopted in mid-2018.
ERS Training Course: Acute respiratory pandemics: how to plan and manage
This practical course covered outbreak investigation, pandemic planning, recent developments in respiratory pathogen biology and therapy, and focused around two practical scenarios in which participants could gain experience in managing an acute epidemic.
