A poster presented by Sweden at the IV Joint EC /ECDC /WHO Workshop on Pandemic Influenza Preparedness in Luxembourg in September 2007 describes some initial thinking on antiviral distribution for treatment. An allocation strategy based on simple analysis of the demographics in Sweden has been developed, and is based on the likely demand for treatment given possible attack rates in those age groups that have been allocated treatment (the young and the elderly). A poster presented by Sweden at the IV Joint EC /ECDC /WHO Workshop on Pandemic Influenza Preparedness in Luxembourg in September 2007 describes some initial thinking on antiviral distribution for prophylaxis, and highlights some of the remaining challenges around the management of prescriptions and delivery, and the need to exercise plans to verify their robustness. The Swedish approach involves distribution through the state-managed pharmacy network.
