Although dengue is not endemic in the EU/EEA, in areas where the Ae. albopictus mosquito is established, viraemic travel-related cases may generate local transmission of the virus, as demonstrated by sporadic events since 2010.
In September 2019, three autochthonous cases of dengue have been reported in Catalonia, Alpes-Maritimes and Rhône. The probability of further spread is very low, as environmental conditions become less suitable for transmission over the autumn season.
