ECDC marks World AIDS Day 2009
Break the silence
On Friday 27 November, ahead of World AIDS Day on 1st December, ECDC and the National Board of Health and Welfare in Sweden is organising a seminar on HIV/AIDS with a focus on stigma and discrimination. The commemoration of World AIDS Day focuses on the current HIV epidemic, which still affects individual and societies all over the world.
The seminar is held in memory of Dr. Jan-Olof Morfeldt’s work. He was a pioneer in the fight against HIV and AIDS in Sweden and a champion of the human rights of people living with HIV/AIDS. The Commemoration of World AIDS Day focuses on the current HIV epidemic, which affects individuals and societies all over the world.
At the occasion of the event, a giant red ribbon will be unveiled on ECDC’s main building, symbolising ECDC’s commitment to the fight of HIV/AIDS.
This seminar is the first of a series of events ECDC is organising to mark World AIDS DAY 2009. On 1st December a scientific seminar will be held at the European Parliament with a special focus on men who have sex with men.
