Zsuzsanna Jakab, Director of ECDC, had the honour of addressing the inaugural meeting of the newly elected European Parliament's Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety.  Mrs. Jakab presented ECDC and its work programme to MEPs before giving ECDC's assessment of how the 2009 influenza pandemic will impact Europe.  Her key message was that the pandemic will put significant pressure on health services this autumn and winter and that the EU and Member States need to be ready for this.
