National Microbiology Focal Points focus on microbiology reference laboratories in their 7th meeting
03 Oct 2010
ECDC
The 7th meeting of the National Microbiology Focal Points – the designated ECDC representatives for public health microbiology in the Member States, EEA and candidate countries, will take place in Stockholm on 19-20 October.

ECDC works closely with these countries on key public health microbiology and laboratory issues. As a result of this collaboration a technical report on “Core functions on microbiology reference laboratories for communicable diseases” was published in June 2010.

The 7th meeting of the NMFPs will focus on further work with microbiology reference laboratories in the Member States, EEA and candidate countries, taking conclusions from this report into consideration.

Additional agenda items are:

  • Public health core competencies of networks of microbiology laboratories
  • Microbial resources for public health
  • Molecular typing for public health purposes
