Today ECDC is launching its Guidance on Chlamydia Control in Europe. ECDC’s Guidance on Chlamydia control in Europe is based on a study of Chlamydia control activities in 29 European countries (reference to the ECDC technical report). This systematic survey found wide variation in the organisation of Chlamydia control across countries. The Guidance on Chlamydia control in Europe advocates a stepwise approach to ensure that primary prevention and patient management are in place before more elaborate interventions such as opportunistic testing and population screening are considered. Efficient and sustainable resourcing and implementation of a national chlamydia control programme requires leadership and commitment from healthcare policy makers. National strategies should take into account the specific epidemiological situation regarding Chlamydia available and future services and resources together with a review of the evidence.
