What does ECDC do when a threat to the health of EU citizens is detected?
07 Jun 2009
ECDC

ECDC’s mandate is to protect the health of EU citizens. When a threat is detected, the Centre’s staff rapidly assesses its significance, organises and coordinates the collaboration between EU institutions, Member States and other partners such as the World Health Organisation (WHO) in order to strengthen early warning, develop independent scientific advice, provide technical assistance and tackle possible emergencies. If needed, ECDC can dispatch experts into the field to investigate the facts on the ground.
