The general objective of the expert consultation is to draft a proposal for case definition and case classification of dengue and chikungunya fever suitable for surveillance in continental Europe. This meeting is anticipated to call upon a group of European experts on dengue and chikungunya fever from several EU Member States, some EU neighbouring countries and international experts from WHO (Euro/Headquarters).
Specific objectives
- to provide an update on the epidemiological situation of dengue and chikungunya fever with focus on Europe;
- to discuss the revisions of the WHO case definitions for dengue and chikungunya fever;
- to discuss the objectives of surveillance of the two diseases in the EU;
- to discuss the EU case definition and case classification of dengue and chikungunya fever;
Based on the outputs of the consultation, ECDC will be able to provide the EU Member States with a proposal for a case definition and classification for dengue and chikungunya fever.
