On 2 October 2007, the coordination activities of the Enter-net dedicated surveillance network were transferred from the Health Protection Agency, UK, to ECDC. Enter-net was for many years an international surveillance network for human gastrointestinal infections in Europe, covering infections with Salmonella, verocytotoxin-producing Escherichia coli (VTEC/STEC) and Campylobacter. ECDC is now continuing and building upon the successful work of Enter-net and will work to further develop and integrate the epidemiology and laboratory surveillance work through its Food- and Waterborne Diseases and Zoonoses Programme.
