These drugs kill the blood stages of Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax clinical isolates at low concentrations. Spiroindolones rapidly inhibit protein synthesis in P. falciparum. Studies in a rodent malaria model showed that spiroindolone NITD609 has pharmacokinetic properties compatible with once-daily oral dosing and has single-dose efficacy in a rodent malaria model.]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[Plasmodium knowlesi is typically found in nature in macaques and has recently been recognized as the fifth species of Plasmodium causing malaria in human populations in south-east Asia. Until recently, Plasmodium knowlesi malaria in humans was misdiagnosed as Plasmodium malariae. Human infection with P. knowlesi are now known to be widely distributed across Malaysian Borneo and extend to Peninsular Malaysia.]]></description>
