Quality

Which systems are in place and in use to ensure laboratory quality in the EU? What is the role of ECDC?

Laboratory quality refers to a requirement in laboratory medicine to provide diagnostic approaches that are accurate, precise, specific and comparable among laboratories.  Laboratory quality control systems aim to detect, reduce and correct any deficiencies in diagnosis, risk assessment, examination and treatment of patients. Insufficient or incorrect analytical performance has consequences for the patients, the clinicians and the health care system.
