The 2014 ESCAIDE welcomed a record number of participants: 608.
The Conference started with an engaging keynote address on the relationship between pathogens, globalisation and politics. Three days of plenary sessions and presentations on all aspects of infectious disease prevention and control ensued.
ESCAIDE 2014 hosted its first BarCamp, which was attended by an enthusiastic group of professionals in all stages of their career and led to interesting, open discussions. The Conference closed with a plenary dedicated to the global response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak and sharing experiences and views on the control efforts.
In the final evaluation of the event, the Conference received very positive feedback. The most appreciated session was the keynote address by Dr. Ilaria Capua (most respondents rated it as excellent/good). This was followed by the special plenary session on the global response to Ebola and plenary session on dual-use research of concern. Over 80% of respondents said they plan to attend ESCAIDE 2015.
